Crochet Tutor--Learn to crochet even if you're blind
Crochet for everyone
My partner Dominique began crocheting a toy for her newly-arrived granddaughter. Dominique was new to crochet and one problem she faced was having to keep track of stitch counts, a menial but necessary task when doing crochet.
I'm an experienced AI programmer and it occurred to me that an app that "watched" the movement of the crochet hook and the yarn could keep track of stitch counts for her and signal her visibly when a row was complete and when to start a new row. But then why not also provide an audible signal to guide hand movements? Wouldn't that also enable the blind to crochet as well as the sighted? This meant that literally anyone, sighted or blind, novice or expert, could profit from the app, an exciting prospect!
This was the motivation for the Crochet Tutor Android app.
